FLEMING àChristopher James Anthony Fleming (Chris), age 54, of Key Largo, FL, lost his battle with Leukemia on Friday, April 27, 2012. Chris died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family and several close friends. Hospice of the Florida Keys and his sister, Jeannette Kelly provided excellent loving care. Chris was born in Key West on September 25, 1957 to James and Hope Kelly. The large portion of Chris' youth was spent in Illinois, birthplace of his parents. He was employed in many occupations, beginning with farm work, Army Corps of Engineers, Burlington Northern Railway, Ninehouser Appliances, Ocean Reef Club maintenance, and others. He owned and operated Davis Sales and Fire Extinguishers in the Keys. Chris was a longtime member of the Key Largo Volunteer Fire Department and served as President of the Fire Association. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and various other organizations. He donated many hours to Community Events, Fund Raisers and thoroughly enjoyed helping anyone who needed his assistance. He was also Captain and co-owner of the legendary sailing boat, the Mortail. ROSENBERG PAUL ROSENBERG à Mr. Paul , as he was so lovingly called, passed peacefully in his home on Big Pine Key and went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 4, 2012. àPaul was born on November 7, 1923 to Frank and Elsie Rosenberg in New York City, New York. At the age of 17, in April of 1942, he left school and joined the United States Navy where he trained and served as an electronics engineer. As part of the Navys Air Program, Paul began his tour with the Lighter than Air Blimp Squadron and was stationed in Lakehurst, N.J. in January of 1943. The Blimp Squadrons were responsible for surveillance missions, and during the war, they patrolled above our submarines and destroyed many enemy submarines. Paul worked on them and flew in them. In June of 1946, he was stationed with the Hurricane Hunters Squadron which patrolled off the East Coast of Florida and the Florida Keys. àIn 1955, he proudly served in Antarctica in Operation Deep Freeze and he did a four year tour of duty in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba from September of 1963 until 1967. During his career, he was also stationed in the Pacific, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Point Mugu, California, Jacksonville, Fla. and finally in Key West, Florida. àAfter 30 years of service, in 1972, Paul was granted an honorable discharge but was retained to work in a civilian position for another 15 years with the U.S. Navy until his retirement in the early 1980's. à Paul had been raised in the Jewish faith, but after meeting Donita, he became a Christian in 1986 and after a two-year courtship, they married at the Big Pine Christian Center (later to become the Vineyard). Paul and Donita settled down on Big Pine Key and spent their retirement years traveling in their motor home, fishing from their boat in the beautiful waters of the Florida Keys, and enjoying the company of many friends. àDuring his military career, this quiet man was awarded the Good Conduct Medal seven times ... he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the Navy Expert Pistol Ribbon, two National Defense Service Medals, the American Defense Service Medal, the Antarctica Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Award, The American Theater Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and an award for Principals of Teaching NAS in Jacksonville, Florida. à Mr. Paul was a member of the Vineyard Community Church (from its founding days as the Big Pine Christian Center) and he will be missed by all his friends and family there. àPaul Rosenberg is survived by his loving wife, Donita DeWitt Rosenberg and his sister, Gloria Schaller. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Marvin and his brother-in-law, Mindy Schaller. àThere will be a memorial service for Mr. Paul at the Vineyard, 100 County Road, Big Pine Key, Fl. 33043 on Saturday, May 12th, with a luncheon to follow. On May 17th, in Rockford, Illinois, there will be a service at the Sunset Memorial Gardens (Machesney Park) in the chapel from 9 -10 am with interment immediately following. àIn lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Vineyard Community Church that he loved so much.

HARRIS à Jeffrey Scott Harris, tragically was found dead at 41 years of age where he lived in Tavernier/Key Largo FL on Saturday, March 31, 2012. He died from a pulmonary embolism he suffered due to injuries sustained to his right lower leg which was crushed after being ran over by a negligent driver who was texting while driving. The accident occurred late October, 2011 in front of the Marriot on Overseas Hwy. in Key Largo FL. à Jeff was born on May 21, 1970, in Atlanta, GA to a loving family. He grew up in Lilburn, GA and graduated from Brookwood High School in 1989. He was a gifted salesman and entrepreneur who was self employed. He also worked in the mortgage business in Georgia. He had a passion for dogs and actively volunteered in helping animal protection organizations. àJeff was known for his humor and fearlessness, as well for his carefree personality. He had a special charm, a quick wit, and was fun to be around. Loved by many yet known by all, Jeff could not be ignored. He will be missed by many old friends who remember him fondly from the past in GA, as well as many new friends he met in the Florida Keys over the past few years. Jeff was loved and will be missed and remembered by all who knew him. à He is preceded in death by his parents, Ron and Judi Harris; grandmothers, (Granny Eddie) Edna Mitchum and Ruth Stephens; Aunt, Sue Mitchell and Ann Couch. GODWIN, WILLIAM STANFORD STAN , 74 àOcala - William Stanford Stan Godwin died May 3, 2012. Formerly of Key Largo, FL, he was born in N.C. and graduated from the University of North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 7 years, flying the KC135. He flew as a commercial pilot for National, Pan Am and United Airlines. After living in Miami for 28 years, he retired to Key Largo, FL. He is survived by his wife Peggy, daughter Paige, favorite son-in-law in the whole wide world, Dave Falcone, dear friends and extended family, Keith and Amanda Lemmon, and godsons, Mario and Marco. No service will be held. Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Marion County or the Alzheimer's Association .

Jim Eddy Johnston 23 Aug 1932 - 15 May 2012 àJim Eddy Johnston of Key Largo FL, peacefully Departed on Eternal Patrol yesterday, Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 at 9:15 PM. Jim would have been 80 on August 23rd this year. àJim was the fourth of seven children of George and Pearl Johnston, now deceased. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, the former Clara 'Charlie' Rounds; two children, daughter Sue Hager and her three children Shelly, Meagan, and Jessy, all of Ionia MI, son Robert of Key Largo FL; and two sisters, Lois Miller of Lyons MI, and Louise Scutt of Portland MI. àJim, born in Stanton MI, was reared and went to High School in Lyons MI. Jim entered the U.S. Navy in 1952 where he proudly served on two WWII submarines as an Engineman. Subsequent to military service and marriage to Charlie in 1959, they resided in Long Lake MI for the next twenty years. In 1979, Jim and Charlie migrated south to Key Largo. àJim was a proud Associate Member of U.S. Submarine Veterans WWII (C.E. Whitten Chap), Life Member U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc (Charter Member Pelican Harbor Base), Life Member VFW Post 10211 Key Largo, and Member American Legion. àJim, a dedicated submarine enthusiast, was the self-appointed Southern Regional Historian for Submarine Conventions and Memorial Services. Jim was know far and wide for photo albums documenting submarine events for the past 30+ years. LICATA, Diego (Dan) John 5/30/1935 - 5/10/2012 Beloved husband, father and grandfather. Dan passed away at home after a courageous fight against Cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends in his final days which brought him great pleasure and peace. Dan was born and grew up in New York in a large, loud and loving Italian family. After serving honorably in the military, he moved to Miami where he met the love of his life Mary Beth to whom he was happily married for 49 years. He became an RCA Electrician and moved to Central Florida where he joined the team at Kennedy Space Center. He was very proud to have been part of the team to put the first man on the moon! After returning to Miami in the 70's he found his second calling...Real Estate. He was an associate, broker and later an outstanding and motivational teacher, in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and the Florida Keys. His greatest love was his family who feel blessed that he is now beyond the pain and suffering and returned to God. Dan was predeceased by his father and mother, Salvatore and Rafaela Licata,and Brother Angelo. He leaves behind wife Mary Beth, daughters Joanne (Bark) Haddad, Diane (Dean) Robaina and 5 grandchildren who adored their Poppy , Baye, Jackie, Devin, Dailyn and Daci. A memorial mass to celebrate Dan's life was held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Coral Springs on Monday May 14. He was the son of the late Dr. Thomas James and Marion (Ackerman) Hayes. à Tom graduated from Tonawanda High School and from Colgate University with a B.A. in Economics. He was captain of his high school swim team and also swam at Colgate and while serving in the Navy. à He was owner/co-owner of numerous businesses in Western New York. Tom made the national news when he was eight years old for swimming across the Niagara River from the Ferry Landing at Ferry St. in Buffalo to the Bedell House on Grand Island. à In addition to his beloved life partner of thirty-five years, Janice Becker, Mr. Hayes is survived by children, Lisa (Jeffrey) Taylor, Mark Hayes, Laura (Arthur) Gasser, Thomas J. RODRIGUEZ Juan Hector Anta Rodriguez Age 51 of Marathon, FL passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012. àJuan entered the United States in 1995 after winning the VISA lottery in Cuba. When he lived in Cuba he was in the military for two years. àHe lived in Miami for a short period of time but has lived in the Keys since 1997. He was employed as a tow truck driver for Florida Keys Towing, Inc. in Marathon. He took great pride in taking care of his '97 Firebird, and his favorite hobby was painting. àJuan was preceded in death by his mother. Survivors include his father, Juan Hector Anta Garcia, and his two sisters, Teresa de Jesus Anta Rodriguez and Olga Lidia Anta Rodriguez who live in Cuba, and three cousins who live in Miami, FL. àFuneral services are presently pending. As Juan requested he be buried in Cuba next to his mother, his family and friends are requesting donations to do this. Marjorie was born May 9, 1951 in Memphis, TN. Her family relocated to the Seattle Washington area where she lived until 16. àMarjorie was an adventurous spirit who left the rainy northwest for Hawaii in the late 1960. She helped build numerous houses on the North Shore of Oahu before building a home on Maui. àIsland fever brought her to Sun Valley Idaho in the 1980 where she met her husband of 32 Years Steve Fraysher. àMarjorie loved the outdoors and nature so skiing and hiking quickly became her passions. She traded hiking the crater on Maui for walking the endless miles of beach south of Santa Cruz, CA where Steve and Marjorie lived prior to moving to Steamboat 21 years ago. Marjorie always had a beloved dog by her side whether walking to Gilpin Black Mandel Lake or the bike path. Numerous friends and family commented about wanting to be reincarnated as one of her beloved dogs and cats she cared for so. àMarjorie is survived by her husband Steve Fraysher, Mother Sarah Crosby, Brother Billy and David Crosby, Sisters Donna Crosby and Debra Stewart along with six nieces and one nephew. àMarjorie was an avid gardener and left a blooming trail of flowers from Maui to Islamorada in the Florida Keys where she lived half the year in a flowering paradise of her own creation.
